Netflix announced that it will be releasing a series of short films based on Roald Dahl stories, directed by Wes Anderson. The films, which include “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” “The Swan,” “The Ratcatcher,” and “Poison,” will be available for streaming on Netflix from September 27-30.
“The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar”
The first film, “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” is a 39-minute adaptation of a beloved Roald Dahl story. It tells the tale of a wealthy man who discovers a guru with the ability to see without using his eyes. Intrigued by this skill, Henry Sugar seeks to learn it himself in order to cheat at gambling. This film is scheduled for release on Wednesday, September 27.
“The Swan”
The second film in the series is titled “The Swan,” and is based on a young adult Roald Dahl short story. It follows the story of a small and brilliant boy who is relentlessly pursued by two large and idiotic bullies. “The Swan” will be released on Thursday, September 28, and has a runtime of 17 minutes.
“The Ratcatcher”
“The Ratcatcher” is the third film in the series and is based on a lesser-known Roald Dahl short story. It centers around a professional rodent exterminator and his encounters with various challenges. This film will be available for streaming on Friday, September 29, and has a runtime of 17 minutes.
“Poison”
The final film in the series is “Poison,” based on a well-known Roald Dahl short story. It tells the story of a man who discovers a poisonous snake asleep in his bed, and the events that unfold as a result. “Poison” will be released on Saturday, September 30, with a runtime of 17 minutes.
The films feature an ensemble cast, including returning Wes Anderson collaborators Ralph Fiennes and Rupert Friend, as well as new collaborators Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Richard Ayoade, and Ben Kingsley. Anderson expressed his excitement about working with this talented cast, stating that he enjoyed the idea of having them play multiple roles throughout the films.
Wes Anderson’s previous film, “Asteroid City,” was released earlier this year and is currently available for streaming on Peacock. Anderson has also previously adapted Roald Dahl’s “Fantastic Mr. Fox” into a stop-motion feature in 2009.
