Biography for Diana Rigg

Born on July 20, 1938 of Beryl and Louis Rigg, Diana Rigg spent her first seven years to bîkâner in India in the province of Rajasthan, where his father worked as an engineer of the railways in the service of Mahârâja Gangâ Singh. She has a brother, Hugh, four years her elder. Diana returned to Great Britain with her brother in 1945. The two children will be placed in boarding schools, while their parents will return to India. Their mother will return in 1947 and their father the following year.

Diana studies dramatic art at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in July 1957. The same year, at the York Theater Festival, the school students, including Diana, played the Caucasian Circle of Bertolt Brecht. These are the very first representations in Britain of this play and, apparently, they are also the very first steps of Diana on stage, her first real public representations. They take place at the York Theater Royal from June 24 to 30. Since then, Diana Rigg has never stopped working, mainly in the theater but also on television, cinema and radio.

After having lived in marital for eight years with the British actor/director Philip Saville, Diana Rigg married Menachem Gueffen, Israeli painter on July 6, 1973. They divorced on September 6, 1976. In 1975, she met Archibald Hugh Stirling during a dinner . On May 30, 1977 was born his daughter, Rachael Stirling, by Archibald Stirling. She married her daughter's father on March 25, 1982 in New York and divorced it in 1995.

Diana Rigg received two grades in the order of the British Empire, that of "Commander" in 1987 and that of "Dame Commander" in 1994, as a reward of an "exceptional career on stage and on the screen in large -Brittany".

Diana Rigg has above all made her career in the theater, playing with brilliantly all genres with undoubtedly inclination to the classics and the dramatic genre (Othello, the dream of a summer night ...) but for many, she The unforgettable Emma Peel will remain of the Malon Hat series and leather boots where she embodies a formidable spy whose scholarship and the qualities of combat are at the height of her great physical beauty. For the majority of fans, the seasons where she is the collaborator of John Steed reflect the golden age of the series (seasons 4 and 5). However, having the impression of locking up in a single character, she decides to follow the example of her predecessor Honor Blackman and leaves the series and the Melon hat agent for another agent ... James Bond! She will play, in fact in the film in the secret service of His Majesty Tracy, the only woman who will be married from 007 (then interpreted by George Lazenby).

It is therefore the Hat Malon and Leather Boots series and this role of James Bond Girl which earned him an undeniable celebrity but today, the actress energetically refuses to speak of this period which nevertheless made her known. Indeed, she has since regretted having accepted the role of Tracy ("an error" according to her) and seems not to have had a harmonious relationship with Lazenby (in contrast to Patrick Macnee in Chapeau Melon) during the shooting of the film. She declares that she simply fulfilled her contract, namely to help a novice. For the series, it is mainly because since, she has been unwaveringly linked to her character: Diana Rigg is Emma Peel. So it does not want interviews on this character who in a way reduced it to stay in collective memory only in this role (just like Macnee and Steed or Linda Thorson and Tara King).

However, her great talent as an actress allowed her to largely avoid this pitfall because her theatrical career is very rich. Also, it is above all as an actress of theater that she must be considered

Diana Rigg was a British actress known for her roles in the television series "The Avengers" and "Game of Thrones". She was also an accomplished theater actress, having won numerous awards for her performances on stage, including a Tony Award for her representation of Medea.

Rigg was born in 1938 in Doncaster, England. She began her acting career in the mid -1950s by playing in theatrical productions in London, and she quickly emerged as one of the most talented actresses of her generation. In 1965, she joined the distribution of the television series "The Avengers", in which she played the role of Emma Peel, an intelligent and determined secret agent. Her performance in the series made her an international star, and she quickly became one of the most popular faces of British television.

After leaving "The Avengers" in 1968, Rigg continued to work as a theater and television actress. She has played in many prestigious productions, notably "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", the sixth film in the James Bond series, in which she played the role of Tracy Di Vicenzo, the wife of Bond. In 1971, she won a Tony Award for her performance in the play "Abelard and Heloise".

Rigg continued to work in the decades that followed, appearing in many theater, television and cinema productions. In 2011, she joined the distribution of the series "Game of Thrones" in the role of Lady Olenna Tyrell, a clever and manipulative woman who plays a key role in the factions war for the Iron Throne. Her performance in the series was greeted by criticism, and she won numerous prizes for her role.

Rigg died in September 2020 at the age of 82. His career over fifty as a theater, television and cinema actress has earned her to be considered one of the most talented and popular actresses of his generation. She will forever remain in memories for her vibrant performances and her strong and independent characters.
