James Doohan was a Canadian actor known for his role of the science fiction character Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the original Star Trek television series. Doohan was born on March 3, 1920 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. After serving in the Canadian army during the Second World War, he started his acting career on radio and television before winning the role that was going to make him famous, that of Scotty in Star Trek.
Doohan played the role of Scotty in the original Star Trek television series from 1966 to 1969, as well as in the following star trek films: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989), Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) and Star Trek: Generations ( 1994).
In addition to his role in Star Trek, Doohan has also played in many other television and films series during his career, including Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman and The Love Boat. Doohan died on July 20, 2005 in Redmond, in the state of Washington, in the United States, at the age of 85.
