John Wesley Shipp is an American actor born January 22, 1955 in Norfolk, Virginia. He is known for his role as Barry Allen / Flash in the 1990 television series The Flash, as well as for his appearances in television series such as Dawson's Creek, One Life to Live and The Young and The Restless.
Shipp began his acting career in 1979 by playing in local theater productions, before turning to television and cinema. He obtained his first important role in 1984 in the television series AS the World Turns, in which he played the role of Kelly Nelson. This performance earned him an appointment to daytime Emmy Awards in the "Best actor in a supporting role" category.
In 1990, Shipp obtained its best known role by playing Barry Allen / Flash in the television series The Flash. The series was a critical and commercial success, and Shipp has won a Saturn Award for its role.
