Dunbar was introduced to the world of acting by one of its dramatic art teachers in high school. He then studied theater at the University of Southern California, where he graduated from the scene arts in 1995. After graduating, Dunbar began playing in plays in Los Angeles, especially In productions of the Ebony Repertory Theater theater troupe.
Dunbar made his debut on the screen in 1997 in the film "Souvenirs d'Enfer", in which he played the role of Bobby. He then played in several other films, notably "Never Die Alone" (2004), "already seen" (2006) and "The Last Stand" (2013). Dunbar has also played in many television series, notably "The O.C." (2003-2006), "Prison Break" (2005-2017) and "Bosch" (2014-2022).
In addition to his acting work, Dunbar is also a producer and a director. He produced several films and television series, notably "The Starter Wife" (2008) and "Heartland" (2007-2012), and has produced several episodes of "Bosch" and "Prison Break".
Apart from his acting career, Dunbar is also a committed social and political activist. He was one of the first players in the "Prison Break" series to get involved publicly in favor of women and minorities' rights, and he is also a fervent defender of the rights of women and children.
