Despite some problems at first, Bill and his servant attach to children ... Dear Uncle Bill (original title: Family Affair) is a former American television series broadcast between 1966 and 1971. It was created by Edmund Hartmann and Don Fedderson, and produced by Don Fedderson Productions. The series featured Brian Keith in the role of Bill Davis, a millionaire single living in New York with his niece Buffy and his nephew Jody. The two children were orphans, their father died in a plane crash and their mother who died of a disease. The series followed the adventures of Bill and children in their daily life in New York, as well as the relations they had with other characters, notably their English governess, Mrs. Beasley, and their friend, Mr. French. The humor of the series was mainly focused on the incredible situations in which the characters found themselves, as well as on the childish and ingenious reactions of Buffy and Jody faced with the problems of adulthood. The casting of the series also included Anissa Jones in the role of Buffy, Johnny Whitaker in that of Jody, Sebastian Cabot in that of Mr. French and Kathy Garver in that of Cissy, the cousin of Buffy and Jody. The series was a success when it was broadcast, winning several awards and being nominated for numerous prizes, notably at the Emmy Awards. It also aroused great interest in fans and criticism, and is considered one of the American television classics in the 1960s. Cissy, Buffy and Jody were living in Terre Haute, Indiana, where Bill and his brother grew up, before moving in with Bill and French.
Very often Buffy was shown with her 'Mrs. Beasley' doll. That became the highlight of the show so much a line of replica Mrs. Beasley dolls was launched. It sold well and continued to sell even two years after the series' cancellation.
