Barry Van Dyke is the second son of legendary entertainer, Dick Van Dyke. He has one older brother, Christian Van Dyke, and two younger sisters, Stacy Van Dyke and Carrie Beth van Dyke. Barry's TV debut was as "Florian", a violin-toting nine-year-old in "The Talented Neighborhood" episode of the classic "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961) show. He worked behind the scenes on subsequent ventures of his father's, and has co-starred with him in two series, "The Van Dyke Show" (1988) and "Diagnosis Murder" (1993). Barry's other television work includes "Galactica 1980" (1980), "Airwolf" (1984) (4th season), "Gun Shy" (1983), Mr. Mom (1983) and "The Redd Foxx Show" (1986), as well as numerous guest appearances. His films include Foxfire Light (1982), It Happened at Lakewood Manor (1977) (TV) (aka ANTS!) and Casino (1980) (TV). Barry met his wife, Mary, when they were both sixteen and he was working as a ticket-taker at a neighborhood movie theatre. Seven years later, they were married. They have four children, Carey Van Dyke, Shane Van Dyke, Wes and Taryn. Carey and Shane have guest-starred with their Dad and Grandpa, in scripts written by Barry, on "Diagnosis Murder" (1993). Barry is an avid motorcyclist with special enthusiasm for dirt bikes. He has participated in protest rides to preserve the rights of motorcyclists to fair use of public lands. Barry is the second child Dick Van Dyke, who plays Mark Sloan in the diagnostic series: murder in which Barry plays Steve Sloan. He played in several series including Galactica, the Agence Tout Risk, Hooker or Arabesque.

His four children have all starred in two episodes of 'Diagnosis Murder" (1993)_ together: 6th season - "Never Say Die" and 7th season - "Fronier Dad".

Second oldest son, Shane Van Dyke, has a small running role as medical student "Alex Smith" on "Diagnosis Murder" (1993).

Attended Pierce Junior College in LA - majored in Theater Arts.

He and his oldest son Carey wrote the very last episode of "Diagnosis Murder" (1993) (in the 8th season) called "The Blair Nurse Project".
