He became famous thanks to his role as Lou Grant in the television series "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in the 1970s. He won an Emmy Award for this role in 1975 and in 1977. He then played the same character in The Spin-Off series "Lou Grant", which earned it two other Emmy Awards in 1979 and 1980.
Asner has also played in many films, including "The Front Runner" (1974), "El Diablo" (1990) and "UP" (2009), for which he won an Oscar for best actor in a support role for His performance as a voice of Carl Fredricksen.
