Meredith Baxter is an American actress known for her role as Elyse Keaton in the "Modern family" television series of the 1980s and 1990s. She was born on June 21, 1947 in South Pasadena in California. She grew up in Pasadena and studied at the University of Southern California. She began her acting career in the late 1960s, appearing in television and theater productions. In 1976, she played in the science fiction film "Bug" and also played in films such as "The Earthquake" in 1974 and "The Acid Eaters" in 1968.
In addition to his role in "Modern Family", Baxter also played in television series such as "Family Ties" and "The Faculty". She won two Primetime Emmy Awards for her work in "Modern Family" in 1989 and 1992. She also received two nominations for a Golden Globe for her role in this series. In addition to her acting career, Baxter has also written several books, including "United: A Memoir of Family, Fame, and Floundering".
In 2009, Baxter announced that she was a lesbian and married her partner, Nancy Locke, in 2013. She is also involved in various charity organizations and worked as a member of the board of directors of Glaad, an organization of Media for lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender.
