Biography for Robert Hays
Born from a colonel father in the navy, Robert Hays spent his childhood between Turkey, India, England and Nebraska. After studying history at the University of Grossmont in California, he joined a theater troupe for five years.
His career began in the 70s when he won some roles in TV movies and soap operas like 'The Young Pioneers' and 'Angie', which are not successful, but allow him to stand out.
This is how he won, in 1980, the first role in 'Is there a pilot on the plane?' Then in 'Is there still a pilot on the plane?' In 1982, popular success which gave him a certain notoriety but did not really launch his career. In 1986, he tried the realization and staged some episodes of the 'Starman' series, in which he also plays. After having participated in 'the incredible trip', Disney studios in 1993, he lent his voice to a few episodes from the cartoons 'Spiderman', 'Superman', 'Hulk' and 'Iron Man' from 1996 to 1997. He plays Also in many movies for television.
In 2000, he obtained a small role in 'Doctor T and the women' by Robert Altman and appeared in two episodes of the series 'That 70's Show'. Between TV movies, family comedies and voice dubbing for cartoons, Robert Hays is a figure appreciated by American popular culture.
Robert Hays is an American actor known for his role in the Airplane cult comedy! (1980), in which he plays the character of Ted Striker, a pilot traumatized by the war trying to take control of a plane in distress. Hays also appeared in many other comedies from the 1980s and 1990s, such as Stripes (1981), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993) and The Ultimate Gift (2006).
Hays was born on July 31, 1947 in Bethesda, Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland and studied theater before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He started his career in the early 1970s by playing in television series such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Marcus Welby, M.D.
In addition to his role in Airplane!, Hays is known to have played the character of the television actor Rick Simon in the television series Simon & Simon, who was broadcast from 1981 to 1989. He also made an appearance in the The X-Files cult series in 1996 in the episode "Mussels of A Cigarette Smoking Man".
Hays is also a professional pilot and used his skills to play in movies and television series features planes, like Airplane! and The Drew Carey Show. Apart from his acting career, Hays is a fervent defender of animal rights and engages in charitable causes linked to this cause. He has been married to actress Kathryn Hays since 1991.
