The series featured Chuck Connors in the role of Jason McCord, a former officer of the Army Union who is wrongly accused of 'Having betrayed your country during the American civil war. McCord is forced to flee and live as a proscribed, seeking to prove his innocence while facing dangers and obstacles at each stage of his trip.

The proscribed was created by Larry Cohen, a screenwriter and director known for his work in the field of science fiction and fantastic.
