Synopsis

The comic adventures of a teenager with powers (notably time stopping) and whose father is an extraterrestrial.

Far from this world (Out of this World in English) was an American science fiction television series which was broadcast between 1987 and 1991. The series was mainly centered on the life of Evie Ethel Garland, a 13-year-old teenager who discovers that it is actually the daughter of an extraterrestrial and a human. Due to this mixed ancestry, Evie has superhuman powers such as telekinesis and teleportation. The series followed the adventures of Evie as she learned to control her powers and to navigate in the complications of the daily life of a teenager while hiding her true identity with her friends and family.

The main role of Evie was interpreted by the young actress Maureen Flannigan, while the rest of the distribution included actors such as Doug McClure in the role of the father of Evie, Dennis Dugan in that of the young girl's stepfather and Tony O'Dell in the role of his best friend, Todd. The series was produced by the production company MCA Television and was broadcast on the NBC television channel.

Although the series was not a massive commercial success, it was hailed by criticism for its innovative staging and its unique approach to science fiction for television. The series has won several prizes, including a Primetime Emmy Award for the best special effects in 1988. Many science fiction fans still consider this world as one of the best series of the decade, and it remains a classic of television.

The old standard tune, "Swinging on a Star", was the show's theme song.

The opening credits of this show feature the starfighters from "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" (1979) as the alien ships. Also the shots that show the aliens on their home world in the opening shows them wearing the ceremonial robes of the Time Lords from "Dr. Who" (1963) .
