Tales from the Crypt
SynopsisThe tales of the crypt is an anthological series of horror which relates various horrific stories (independent of each other) presented by the guardian of the crypt a strange and fun creature. The tales of the crypt (tales from the crypt) was an American television series which was broadcast between 1989 and 1996. The series was inspired by the homonymous comics published by EC Comics in the 1950s. The tales of the crypt staged Horror and science fiction stories in which the main characters often found themselves confronted with terrifying situations. The series was broadcast on the HBO network and was made up of seven seasons, each containing around ten episodes. Most of the episodes were independent of each other, although there were some longer narrative arcs over the seasons. Crypt's tales was known for its violence and black humor, as well as for the quality of its special effects. Crypt's tales were produced by Hollywood studios such as Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. The series was acclaimed by criticism and won several prizes, including five Primetime Emmy Awards. It was also adapted to a film in 1992, simply entitled the tales of the crypt. The series was presented by a fictitious character called the Crypt Guardian, interpreted by the famous American actor John Kassir. The goalkeeper was an animated corpse that introduced each episode by telling a macabre story to his spectators. Most of the episodes featured leading actors, such as Demi Moore, Kirk Douglas, Whoopi Goldberg and Jerry Lewis. Because of its violent and shocking content, the crypt's tales aroused many controversies during its broadcast. The series has been criticized for its violence and its vulgar language, and has been censored in many countries. Despite this, the series was very successful and was appreciated by a large audience, which made it one of the most popular HBO series at the time.
