Gretchen Egolf grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she began acting in theater as a child. After high school, she attended the Juilliard School for drama in New York and has been living and working in New York and Los Angeles ever since. Aside from her numerous Broadway, off-Broadway, West End, and regional theater credits, Gretchen was a series regular on "Martial Law" (CBS), played the recurring character of "Vanessa Whitaker," in "Roswell" (WB), and appeared as Jackie's wife in "Gleason" (CBS movie), starring opposite Brad Garrett. She has guest starred on numerous shows: "Law and Order," "Without a Trace," "Century City," "Nero Wolfe," "Cosby," "The Naked Brothers Band," and "Cracker." She has also played series regular roles in the pilots "Leap of Faith," "The Corsairs," and "Journeyman." Gretchen's film experience has been varied and includes roles in Mira Nair's "The Namesake," Anthony Minghella's "The Talented Mr. Ripley," and Robert Redford's "Quiz Show," as well as the independent films "Social Grace" and "Nicolas." She currently lives in New York City.

Gretchen Egolf is an American actress born October 23, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland. It is mainly known for its role as Ally McBeal in the television series of the same name, as well as for its performance in other television and cinematographic productions.

Egolf began her acting career by playing in plays, especially in productions from the Baltimore theater company. She then made her cinema debut in 1997 with the independent film "Some Girl", in which she played the role of Vivian. She also played in other independent films, such as "Wish You Were Dead" (2002) and "Brooklyn Lobster" (2005).

In 1999, Egolf obtained his first regular role in a television series by playing the role of Lila Archer in the series "The Outreach Workers". She then played in other television series, notably "Ally McBeal" (2001-2002), "The West Wing" (2003-2004) and "Stargate SG-1" (2004-2005). In 2009, she played in the series "Mad Men", in which she played the role of Caroline Sweeny.

In addition to his roles on television and cinema, Egolf also played in several theater productions, notably in "The Lion In Winter" on Broadway in 1999 and in "A Streetcar Named Desire" at the Shakespeare Theater Company in 2006. She was also nominated for a Helen Hayes prize for its role in the play "The Belle of Amherst" in 2007.
