Baywatch
SynopsisThis long-running series follows the adventures of a team of lifeguards on a crowded resort beach. Veteran lifeguard Mitch Buchannon watches over the younger lifeguards that come and go with each passing season as they keep the beaches safe for vacationers. Frequently he must take action to save them from the raging seas and from the raging tempers that sometimes flare up between the young guards in this stressful job. The ActorsTriviaCancelled by NBC after its first season, the show was revived in syndication. The syndicated version was, at its height, one of the most popular shows in the world and was syndicated in 148 countries
After eleven years in syndication, the show was canceled for the second and final time (its first cancellation was in 1990 when the show was on NBC) in 2001 because of low ratings and decreasing viewer interest.
At one point this series was being aired on every continent on the planet except Antarctica.
Following its California run, the show was going to be relocated to Australia. However, after a severe backlash from Australians, the show moved to Hawaii.
Longest running show to never win an Emmy. (as of 2005)
Both Mitch and Court were former Navy SEALs.
Following cancellation by NBC in the United States, the British broadcaster LWT (now part of ITV plc) stepped in to help save the program. At that time it had aided the ITV network (of which LWT was part) to regain the ratings war from the BBC in its time slot.
The characters "Newmie" and "Barnett" are both real life guards. They were originally hired by the production staff as technical advisers, but were bumped to reoccurring roles by the 2nd season.
