The series is based on the film Hondo (1953), which is itself inspired by the novel The Man Called Hondo by Louis L'Amour. The film and the series featured John Wayne in the role of Hondo Lane, a lonely rider in the American West. In the series, Hondo Lane is a former Confederate soldier who fought in the Civil War. After the war, he worked as a guide and tracker for the American government, traveling through the West to help the settlers and the military to fight against the hostile Indians. He is often accompanied by his dog, Sam, and meets interesting characters throughout his trips. The series was very popular at the time of its broadcast, partly thanks to the presence of John Wayne in the main role. The series was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 1967 in the "Best Director for a Dramatic series" category. Despite these awards, the series has not been renewed for a second season and is no longer broadcast today. TriviaFilmingFilming locations: Authors of the card
