The Sentinel (The Sentinel in English) is an American television series which was broadcast between 1996 and 1999 on the UPN channel. The series featured Richard Burgi in the role of Jim Ellison, an agent of the Cascade PD (Department of Police) endowed with a sense of hearing, sight and extremely developed smell, following an experience that 'He lived in the Amazon jungle. Ellison is helped in his investigations by his partner, Inspector Blair Sandburg (interpreted by Garett Maggart), who was responsible for watching over him and helping him control his powers.

The series was created by Danny Bilson and Paul de Meo, and it is inspired by the new name of the same name written by Bilson. The sentry was hailed by criticism for its complex intrigue and its well -developed characters, as well as for its innovative way of dealing with the themes of trust and identity. The series has won several prizes, including a Primetime Emmy Award for the special special effects.

Despite these praise, the sentry was never a massive commercial success, and it was canceled after four seasons. However, the series has developed a strong fans base, which continued to support the series even after its end, and it remains considered one of the best television series ever produced.

Originally, Sentinel was to take place in the very real city of Seattle. But the authorities refused, fearing that the city would subsequently be considered as a city of vice and crime. From there was born the idea of ​​creating a false city: waterfall.

Canceled by the American channel UPN at the end of the 3rd season, Sentinel resuscitated in 1999 thanks to the relentlessness of fans. Following many movements, protests and other petitions, the network decided to produce a fourth and last (half) season, to conclude the series in style.
