Dana Elcar is a television and movie actor. Inarguably his most memorable role is Peter Thornton, an administrator working in the Phoenix Foundation on the 1980's television series MacGyver.
In 1991, actor Dana Elcar began to develop glaucoma, a degenerative condition of the eyes that causes blindness. This condition was written into the show, and Elcar's character also developed the disease.
Born in 1927, Dana Elcar was a solid player from Hollywood, who participated in more than 130 projects. Small second -class actor, he takes advantage of television to make a name for himself. Very professional, he will stage several episodes of the series in which he plays. This will be the case of MacGyver, the burned heads or even Salvage 1 and The Duke, two unpublished series. However, he ended his acting career in the early 90s, suffering from blindness. It is blind that he will make his last appearance in New York District.

Unfortunately, Elcar suffered from vision problems during his life, which ultimately forced him to wear thick glasses and a hearing aid. Despite this, he continued to work until his death in 2005, at the age of 77. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.

- When he started going blind, his character Peter Thornton on "MacGyver" was also written with the same affliction. His blindness was also written into his guest appearance on "Law and Order," resulting from Diabetic Retinopathy.
